Making New Year’s Resolutions for 2017 (Part 2)

“Sometimes you hear a voice through a door calling you…This turning toward what you deeply love saves you.” -Rumi

My focus as a healer is the internal wound and shadow, for that which we carry cannot help but be manifested in some way in the world. Our lives, bodies, and minds, serve as a template for the larger world, with some of us more somatic, some more emotional, and some more mental. The greater the awareness, the greater the ability to make a choice to let go, accept or integrate that which makes up who we really are.

We all have some dark side that needs to be seen: the light of your soul exists as a backdrop against your humanity, with the soul light there to shine the light of who you are in all its glory, density, and heartache. The true magic in here is recognizing that that 1 light despite all of what it illuminates is what you really are, not the darkness. Yet we must honor that darkness as we are a relational and connecting species. We must live to learn this darkness, and learn to live with our light and darkness within ourselves and each other. It is only through this that we can transcend and raise ourselves up into a new way of living.

Yet every New Year, people make goals and resolutions. Very often the resolutions are done with the idea of doing better: to lose weight, to make more money, to find one’s soul relationship or tribe. Most people know that we must make those goals concrete, and most are open to the idea to start with “one’s self” if they want to attract the relationship of their dreams.

We make these goals within the context of getting rid of something or getting something. Making it a product of the ego mind, and bringing about suffering within ourselves, and ultimately our relationships. Very often we do not pay attention to what got us here in the first place, we ignore a small voice inside that beckons, a voice of the heart, your heart that says, “I must do this”.

Perhaps this year resolve instead to “hear” your candle and let that be your center, your guidepost, that moral compass. That candle is the voice within the heart that tells you when something is right or wrong for you. Sometimes that voice may mean more pain initially, but your suffering will stop. Allowing that candle, that voice to flourish, will bring you clarity and vitality to make those next steps in service to those around you. And this vitality will effect your weight and health, your success and prosperity, the relationships you attract and ultimately this great society and country that has nurtured and sustained us.

May we in this year 2017 have the courage to meet our own voice, see our candle and shine it forth to ourselves and all those around us.

Namaste.
